Mercedes R. Bouchard Mercedes,
originally from Zacatecas, Mexico. Started her art career in Ciudad Juárez,
Mexico, and worked there for 2 years. In 1968 to 1972 she began freelance
work for several studios in El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez becoming
one of the best and fastest colorist. She traveled to Europe where
she worked for an Austrian photographer for 3 years, then in 1979, moved
to Houston and worked for Gitting's lab and other studios. In 1980, she
opened a restoration studio on the Katy Freeway and also did freelancing
for studios as well as retail. She continued her education by attending
courses at the Texas School of Professional Photography at Sam Houston
University in Huntsville.In 1984, Mercedes Bouchard and Lavon Westfall
founded the Photographic Artists of Texas, in 1986, Mercedes become the
president of this organization. She served 3 years as program chairman,
one year as newsletter editor, and 2 years as print competition chair.
Mercedes also served as judge in print competition in Kerrville summer
seminar. In 1993, this organization honored Mercedes by creating a Founder's
award. The Bouchard-Westfall Founder's Award is given annually to the
artist who has made the most advancements for the art community. |
